Getting Started

Do I need my own racket?
Beginners are welcome to borrow equipment for their first session. We recommend getting your own racket once you're committed to the program — your instructor can advise on what's appropriate for your level and playing style.
What skill level do I need to join a clinic?
We have programs for every level — from complete beginners to advanced competitive players. Our USPTA-certified staff will help place you in the right group during your first session so you're always challenged at the right level.
How do I register for classes?
Register online through our WellnessLiving platform — visit our Schedule page and click any class to view details and register. You can also contact us and we'll get you signed up.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable athletic clothing suitable for the weather. Non-marking court shoes are required — tennis and pickleball shoes provide the lateral support you need. Avoid running shoes, which lack ankle stability for court sports.
What happens if it rains?
Outdoor sessions may be cancelled due to weather. Registered participants will be notified and we'll offer make-up opportunities when available. Courts typically dry quickly after light rain and we do our best to keep sessions running.
Are there programs for young children?
Absolutely. Our Little Champs program starts at age 5 using the USTA Quickstart method — red foam balls, smaller rackets, and shorter courts scaled to young players. It builds coordination, confidence, and love of the game before introducing full-court tennis.

Our Programs

Do you offer private lessons?
Yes! One-on-one and small group lessons with USPTA-certified instructors are available for both juniors and adults. Private lessons are fully customized to your goals. Book a lesson here.
Do you offer pickleball?
Yes! We offer beginner through intermediate pickleball clinics at all three Charlotte locations. Learn more about our pickleball programs.
Where are your courts located?
We operate at three premier Charlotte locations: Jeff Adams Tennis Center, Park Rd. Park, and Freedom Park. Program availability varies by location — check our Schedule for details.
Can adults and juniors be in the same class?
No — adult and junior programs run separately. This ensures age-appropriate instruction, appropriate physical intensity, and a comfortable environment for all players.

Policies & Pricing

How do I sign up for lessons or clinics?
Sign up via the Charlotte City Tennis app (App Store & Google Play), through the Book Now tab on this website, or contact us directly. We also accept cash, check, or card at the facility.
Do I need a membership to sign up?
No membership is required for most clinics and programs. A USTA membership is required specifically for USTA Team Tennis — we can assist with registration.
When do clinic packages expire?
All package purchases have a 2-month expiration. We recommend a package of 4 for once-per-week players, a package of 8 for twice-per-week, and the drop-in rate for less frequent play.
Are clinics year-round? What's the weather policy?
Yes, clinics run year-round. Outdoor sessions may be cancelled due to weather — registered participants will be notified and offered make-up opportunities. Courts typically dry quickly and we keep sessions running whenever it's safe.
How do I cancel or reschedule?
Cancellation and rescheduling is managed through our WellnessLiving platform. Refer to your registration confirmation email for policy details, or contact us and we'll assist you.

Certifications & Competitive Play

What is USPTA certification?
The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) is the world's leading certifying body for tennis professionals. All Charlotte City Tennis instructors are USPTA certified — meaning you're always learning from a qualified, credentialed professional.
What is USTA League Play?
USTA League Play is the country's largest recreational tennis league with over 300,000 players nationwide. Match play is based on the NTRP rating system. Charlotte City Tennis fields USTA teams — contact us to learn more about joining.
What is NTRP and how do I find my level?
NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) classifies players from 1.0 (beginner) to 7.0 (world-class). Not sure of your level? Ask one of our coaches — we'll place you in the right clinic or league.
